This website is a dedicated showcase for the photography services at Blue Island Media, which are run by Michael Ellis.
The photographic side of Blue Island stemmed from our publishing background in the early 2000s, when Michael started incorporating photography into his editorial workload for travel guides and for titles such as Londoner’s Diaries, London: City of Words, World Whisky, Betjeman’s Best British Churches and a series of books for Dragons’ Den.
Back then, our company was Thameside Media (we were based in London), and in around 2012 Thameside took over an existing product photography business called Slippery Fishes. We kept its distinctive name for several years, before unifying all our work under the Thameside name.

In 2024 we relocated to Exeter, and yet another name change seemed necessary! And so, we are now Blue Island Media, and the photography arm Blue Island Photography.
Most of our work is product photography, whether pack shot or lifestyle, but we also do location shoots, interiors and architectural.
Blue Island’s photographer Michael Ellis studied to a masters level at Glasgow School of Art, working across a range of media, including photography, film, video, text and sound. He has been photographing professionally since 2002.
